Greetings from St. Mary’s Guild

                                                   …….by Nancy Guthrie, President

As incoming President of St. Mary’s Guild, I look forward to serving with the new officers: Barbara Gwinup, Vice President; Val Emerson, Secretary and the Rev. Lee Sax, Treasurer. Together we plan to implement new fundraising ideas and goals which will take us through the next twelve months.

Community outreach, supporting some of the special needs of our own parish and the larger church, provide the foundation of doing God’s work through the Guild’s selected fundraising projects. Every woman of St. Stephen’s is considered a member and we welcome your participation. Please consider this greeting your special invitation to come to the Parish Hall at 11:30 a.m. on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month. We gather for Noonday Prayer at 11:30 a.m., and then sit down to a hosted lunch and business meeting on the 2nd Thursday. On the 4th Thursday, we bring a sandwich and work on current projects informally.

Please note these meeting dates: During the summer months, the Guild will meet very casually at 11:30a.m on July 24 and August 28. Then on September 11, we begin the fall schedule gathering at 11:30 a.m. with a hosted lunch and business meeting. I look forward to our ministry as we begin a new and enriching year of serving others.

We did have an informal potluck lunch meeting at Nancy Guthrie's home on June 19, at which Nancy read a thank you letter received from the San Gorgonio Hospital Auxiliary for the $500 Joy Holden memorial gift we had previously sent.  The only other business that was discussed was this year's Christmas Tree Festival, scheduled for December 3, 4 and 6, and the fact that we would ask Jim McConnell to speak to the guild with regard to the progress of plans for Carol's Mercy House.

Lee Sax indicated that our June tea netted a profit of $2,300 and that we now had approximately $4,000 in the guild bank account.  She suggested we give consideration as to where some of this money could best be spent.

It was decided to have informal meetings on July 24 and on August 28 in order to implement plans for the upcoming festival and establish committees for the various tasks.
